Course Summary
Principles of Transportation provides a survey of the aviation industry, domestic and international. The course will cover aircraft and flight, economics, air traffic management, navigation, airline and airport operations, aviation security, law, and safety as well as environmental impacts. The goal of the course is to provide the student with an overview of the air transportation system illustrating the interdependency among its components. Students will develop a thorough knowledge of current and emerging trends in the air transportation industry as well as its function and role in domestic and international management.

Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Articulate the birth of the aviation industry and logistics of the air transportation networks, domestic and international.
- Compare and contrast the many facets of the air transportation system; including aircraft, airports, airline operations, navigation, and the environment.
- Evaluate the interconnectedness of the air transportation network.
- Analyze accidents and incidents of airline transportation that influence aviation law, security, and safety.
- Measure aviation economics (airline operational costs, productivity, and planning) to determine cost efficiencies as a business industry.
- Predict the future of the air transportation industry by performing analysis on a current issue in aviation and reflecting on modern implemented engineering techniques.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of God’s purposeful design in the interrelatedness of the aviation industry.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
The student will complete the Discussion: Class Introductions in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include a recorded presentation. The student will be creative with the presentations. The student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words.
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. The student will participate in 2 types of Discussions: Video and Written. Video Discussions’ initial threads must be between 4-5 minutes in length and Written Discussions’ initial threads must be between 400-500 words demonstrating course-related knowledge.

Write an essay in which you discuss and provide examples of the organizational structure of an airport or your choice, specifically addressing key considerations and design elements of airside and landside operations.
Make sure to support everything you report with at least 2 current APA citations apart from the course textbooks and a reference page at the end. Review the Essay Grading Rubric before submitting. Your paper must be at least 500 words. (MLO: B, C, E, G)
The student must write a 7-8 page research paper on the prospects of an air carrier of his/her choice, postulating a hypothesis on whether or not this airline will emerge unscathed and thriving while analyzing potential avenues for success and describing current or past hardships. Expectations are that critical thinking and analyzing skills are used, that the student articulates and defends his/her proposed hypothesis, and ascertain logical reasoning for his/her conclusion.

- Outline and Reference Page Paper
- Research Paper
