Course Description

This course explores the ethics of aerospace decision-making through analysis of various aviation practices and principles from a leadership perspective.  Students will develop a biblical foundation for leadership practices and decision-making in the aviation industry.

This course will prepare the student to understand and apply sound and biblical aeronautical decision-making about the ethics and morals involved in the aviation discipline.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe leadership principles and ethics from a biblical worldview.
  2. Analyze leadership principles, ethics, and morals as they relate to the aerospace industry.
  3. Analyze and synthesize sources of authority, responsibility, and accountability for aerospace leadership
  4. Compare and contrast ethical situations in aviation from personal and organizational perspectives.
  5. Compare and contrast how aviation leaders’ ethics, morals, and worldview relate to the profession and practice in the aerospace field.
  6. Discuss and evaluate practical ways to convey ethics instruction in an aerospace organization.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Class Introduction Discussion

The student will post an introduction/bio in a visual presentation format.  The visual presentation must include a two-three minute recorded video presentation.  In addition, each student must then post two replies to introductions of classmates consisting of at least 100 words minimum.

Discussions (8)

There are eight weekly Discussions to be completed in this course. Each week, the student is required to post one thread of at least 500 words and two replies of at least 250 words to two classmates’ threads. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Case Study Assignments (8)

There are eight weekly Case Study Assignments to be completed in this course.  The student will read each assigned Case Study and respond to the Case Study questions.  Responses should be in paragraph format (rather than bulleted responses) and must adhere to APA formatting.  Responses should be substantive, with at least one paragraph response to each question. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Prayer Reflection Report Assignment

The student will choose five leaders he/she knows personally, and commit to praying for them for at least 30 days.  During the thirty days of prayer, the student should keep a prayer journal, recording his/her thoughts, observations, and ideas regarding the prayer time.  The student will submit a 2-3 page paper that discusses his/her reflections on the time of prayer.  The paper should discuss ways that he/she has seen the respective leaders change and ways that his/her own life has been changed by prayer time.  Additionally, the paper should include specific examples of observed changes (based on the prayer journal), biblical references and principles to support observations, and a critical self-evaluation with practical application for the student’s future leadership roles.  The paper should adhere to APA formatting. Personal Ethics Paper

The student will write a 5-7 page paper, applying the course principles to his/her personal experience, background, and/or professional role in an aerospace role.  The paper’s purpose is to synthesize the various elements covered in the course to form a set of personal ethical principles that may be used in the student’s leadership role or future position in the aerospace industry.  The paper should adhere to APA formatting.  (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
