Course Description
A survey of general economic concepts and principles for non-business majors. Presents an overview of theories and applications in microeconomics and macroeconomics. A market economic system is introduced and comparisons with other economic systems are provided.

Rationale
This course provides students with a basic knowledge of economics and shows them how to apply this knowledge to understand micro- as well as macroeconomic issues. The course supports the published Liberty University Philosophy and Mission Aims.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discover biblical principles for economics.
- Understand consumer demand and producer supply decisions and various market structures.
- Understand the basics of the market economy and the role of government in the market.
- Describe the macroeconomic problems: business cycles, unemployment, and inflation and knowing government policies to deal with these problems.
- Analyze current economic issues.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will be presented with questions from Stapleford’s book. The student is required to answer the questions with at least 1 citation in current APA format. Each Discussion thread must be at least 300 words. The student must also reply to 1 classmate’s thread and the reply must be at least 150 words.
The student will be required to answer a set of problems taken from the end-of-chapter problems from Schiller’s book.
After reading the chapters in Schiller’s book, the student will take quizzes from SmartBook with unlimited tries.

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the Modules: Weeks in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 36 multiple-choice questions, and have a 2-hour time limit. The student will have one opportunity to complete each quiz.
