Course Description
Student teaching offers practice in all phases of teacher responsibility. This practice includes teaching activities in a PreK-12 classroom setting appropriate to the endorsement area of the teacher candidate.

Rationale
Student teaching is the culmination of all of the candidate’s coursework in preparation for teaching. It is essential to provide an opportunity to communicate with university supervisors.

Discussions
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be 200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 100 words. (MLO: A)
Placement Verification
The Placement Verification form should be completed after the first day of the placement, providing the information requested regarding the placement location and On-Site Supervisor information. This information should be consistent with the information provided by the Field Office. Please inform the course instructor of any discrepancies.
Placement Attendance Quiz
The candidate will complete the Placement Attendance Quiz by answering 10 questions regarding attendance for the student teaching placement. (MLO: E)
Journal Entries & Weekly Logs
The candidate will submit a 2- to 3-paragraph journal entry summarizing the week at school. The candidate’s entries should reflect personal experiences about what was learned and what challenges were faced while also responding to a prompt. Weekly hours will be logged and also recorded in LiveText.
During select weeks, the FEM will be checked for the recording of hours. The candidate must input his/her direct and indirect hours in the “View Placement Details” in the FEM; the onsite mentor must then approve those hours. (MLO: B)
Weekly Schedule and Lesson Plans
The candidate will submit weekly schedules for his/her placement each Friday prior to the week the schedule will be used. Additionally, the candidate will submit lesson plans each Friday prior to the week the lessons are to be taught. The lesson plans for the first 5 lessons taught for each core subject area will be written as detailed lesson plans. After completing the 5 detailed lesson plans for a core subject area, the candidate can use block lesson plans for the subsequent lessons. The differences between completing the 2 kinds and further guidelines are outlined in the course. (MLO: C, D, E)
Initial Visit/Confidentiality Agreement
The Initial Visit form is located in the Student Teacher Handbook. The candidate’s On-Site Supervisor will obtain this form and complete it during his/her first visit to the school. (MLO: A)
Field Experience Summary Check
The candidate will submit his/her Field Experience Summary (FES) form for review. If any area has not been completed, the candidate will need to make arrangements to complete any missing field experiences. (MLO: D)
On-Site Supervisor Observation
The On-Site Supervisor will complete the observation form provided in the Student Teaching Handbook for a formal lesson the candidate teaches during the placement. (MLO: C, D, E, F)
Implementation Schedule
The candidate will work with the Cooperating Teacher to create a schedule to phase into and out of the classroom over the entire placement. (MLO: E)
Mid-Term CPAST
The candidate’s cooperating teacher will complete this assessment through the FEM in LiveText. The consensus score report should be submitted by the candidate in Canvas. (MLO: A, C, D, E, F)
