HIUS 316 connects the experience of the American Revolution and the American Civil War. The course covers political, constitutional, economic, military, religious, and social aspects of American history between the end of the War of 1812 and the beginning of the Civil War; it thus serves as a bridge in the student’s understanding of these two critical events.

- The final research paper must be 6–8 pages and must contain 10 references in addition to the course materials and the Bible. The paper must be in the current Turabian format. Two of the eight sources must be primary sources. The paper must address the Jacksonian Era history of the chosen region and demonstrate how the one-course theme manifested here in specific ways.
