Course Description
A continuation of PRTH 172, with emphasis on the practical application of hermeneutical principles and methods. Practical application includes writing a personal commentary on a selected book of the Bible.

Rationale
Once a Bible text has been analyzed and all pertinent data has been collected, the Bible investigator must use proper interpretive principles and techniques to ascertain the intended meaning of the author. This course assists the learner in applying the interpretive journey to the biblical narrative, Gospel pericopes, and poetic, apocalyptic, wisdom literature.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the literary elements featured in selected Bible passages.
- The diagram plot development in selected Bible narratives.
- Interpret a Gospel pericope to make practical application to a contemporary issue.
- Explain the basic interpretive process of biblical texts.
- Develop pertinent applications from the principles of selected biblical texts.

Discussions (2)
There will be 2 Discussions throughout this course. Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided topic for each discussion. Each thread must be 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words. (MLOs: A, B)
Gospel Pericope Assignment
The student will read the assigned biblical passage. After completing the reading, the student will answer the questions provided with a minimum of 150 words per section. (MLOs: A, C, D, E)
Quizzes (7)
There will be seven quizzes during the course that will evaluate the knowledge of the student. (MLOs: A, D, E)
Hebrew Poetry Paper Assignment
The student will read the assigned biblical passage. After completing the reading, the student will complete a 3–4-page paper that is based on the structure found in the instructions. The student must use the current Turabian format and include a minimum of 3 sources (not including the course texts and the Bible). A 1-page outline must also be included. The title page, bibliography, and outline do not count toward the page requirement. (MLOs: A, D, E)
