Course Description
This course is an introductory study of creative worship and common technologies used in worship ministry. Application is made to lighting design, audio and video production, presentation software, movement, staging, worship leadership, worship planning, and a variety of multimedia possibilities.

Rationale
Human beings are wired to be creative for God’s glory and honor. At perhaps no other time in history has there been such a compelling cry for creativity in the local church. Students preparing for leadership roles in the local church in the 21st century must be versed in a variety of creative tools, techniques, and technological infrastructure available to the worship leader.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate worship leadership and the implications of biblically-guided, biblically-based worship.
- Identify and articulate the role of creativity and the creative arts in worship.
- Create a worship service using audio, lighting, and video technology, worship planning, stage design, visual arts, dance, movement, pacing and flow, and Planning Center Services.
- Analyze current creative art forms used in various worship venues from a biblical worldview.

Discussions (2)
Discussions are designed to help facilitate new learning and to make meaningful applications of the course concepts to personal experiences. The student will be required to compose a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. The thread should demonstrate course-related knowledge while also sharing personal experiences, as related to the class concepts. In addition, each student must respond to at least two classmates’ threads. (MLO: A, B)
Quizzes (4)
Each quiz will cover readings from the Learn materials. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and will contain 3 to 5 essay questions. A time limit of 45 minutes is present for each quiz. (MLO: A, C)
Audio Technology Interview and Observation Assignment
The student will explore the audio technology used in the church through one of two avenues. The student will either interview a church audio technician and observe him/her during a worship service or will provide a complete breakdown of all audio needs for a given Sunday morning service at their home church. (MLO: C)
Worship Leading Assignment
The student will record a video of his/her worship leadership. The video must include only 1 song during which the student must be visible for the majority of the time. The student’s worship leadership must exhibit understanding and application of biblical-based worship. (MLO: A)
Video or Lighting Technology Interview and Reflection Assignment
The student will explore video or lighting technology in the church through one of two avenues. The student will either interview a church video or lighting technician and compose a reflection on the interview. (MLO: C)
Visual Arts Assignment
The student will view one video in which the creative arts are used. The student will then evaluate the use of those elements by answering a set of questions on the Creative Use Worksheet and by providing a one-page reflection. (MLO: B, D)
Worship Service: Planning Songs and Order Assignment
The student will select a theme and 10 songs for use in the Final Worship Project. (MLO: A, C)
Worship Service: Planning Center Assignment
The student will input the songs chosen in the Worship Service Planning Assignment into Planning Center Services. The resulting document will be used in the Final Worship Project (C)
Worship Service: Creative Arts Planning Assignment
Using the theme and songs chosen in the Worship Service Planning Songs and Order Assignment, the student will incorporate at least 4 creative elements (stage design, visual arts, dance, movement, etc.) as appropriate. These additional creative elements will be used in the Final Worship Project (C, D)
Worship Service: Video and Final Service Assignment
This project serves as a culmination of the course content and will be submitted in two parts.
PART 1: The student will compile the information from the Worship Service Planning Assignment and the Creative Arts Planning Assignment and input it into Planning Center Services. The student will also incorporate a variety of transitions between the different elements and will list them as part of the created document on Planning Center Services. In addition, the student must also, based upon what was gleaned from the Audio Technology Assignment, Video and Lighting Assignment, and textbook readings, outline the technology needs for the service through the competition of the Technology Needs Worksheet.
PART 2: The student will select a portion of the service for presentation. The student will record a video as they present two songs with one transition between them and will upload the video for review. (MLO: A, B, C, D)
