This course includes a survey of advanced safety analysis techniques before and after mishaps. Methods explored will include engineering and forensic investigations, animation recreation, safety reporting, and data aggregation and analysis. Students will be challenged to integrate a Biblical worldview while using various tools to deepen their understanding of safety.

Today’s aviation professionals are challenged to know and understand the legacy and new methods on the job to promote safety in their organizations. Elementary computer programs such as Excel are helpful, but leaders must understand more advanced tools available to enhance leader decision-making.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Review post-mishap methods of accident investigation.
- Study and discuss preventative methods used in the aviation community.
- Review the growth and influence of predictive analysis through flight data monitoring.
- Learn and apply methods to create a flight animation product for safety training purposes.
- Choose an additional tool or resource and present a study to graduate-level students, simulating a decision briefing for a senior organizational leader (possible continuation of capstone project).
- Integrate a Biblical worldview while using analysis methods to deepen the students’ understanding of safety.

Discussion: Class Introductions
The student will complete the Discussion: Class Introductions in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include a maximum of a 5-minute recorded presentation.
There are eight Discussions to be completed in this course. The student is required to post one thread of at least 500 words and two replies of at least 250 words to two classmates’ threads. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)
The student will research one aircraft accident each week. Considering the chain of events, causal factors, and NTSB /FAA findings, the student will write a 2-3 page analysis of the accident, including at least one recommendation to prevent a similar recurrence in the future. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)
Safety Analysis Briefing
The student will select a major aircraft accident to analyze. Portraying the role of an investigator, the student will consider all factors that may have caused the accident. The student will present the results of the analysis either via an animation product or briefing with 15 PowerPoint slides minimum. (MLO: A, B, D)
Course Reflection Essay
The student will write a minimum 500-word essay reflecting on their experience in this course. (MLO: F)
