Rationale
Designed to educate, equip, and serve those who help others, this course covers major women’s issues that span the stages of a woman’s life. The aim of this course is threefold. First, this course aims to give those ministering to women resources and knowledge to draw from, especially those areas of need outside their own experience. Secondly, this course aims to provide a body of material that will inspire, challenge, and enhance everyday life for any woman or those ministering to women. Thirdly, this course is designed to bless anyone who wants to grow in Christ and seek God’s best for his or her life.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify spiritual, emotional, and physical goals of counseling women.
- Describe how a defensive personality structure influences a woman’s life.
- Identify ways to properly navigate through and successfully handle major life transitions and circumstances.
- Identify how to assess life’s problems in a positive, solution-focused way (problems include: women and depression, stress and anxiety, body image and eating disorders, healing from sexual abuse, and spousal abuse).
- Describe ways of making marriage great, including finding sexual satisfaction, spiritual intimacy within marriage, and living in a marriage without regret.
- Identify ways to help women with family life.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be 250–400 words and must include at least 1 textbook citation in the current APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to the threads of at least 3 classmates. Each reply must be 100–200 words and must integrate at least 1 of the following citation options in current APA format: the Bible, the textbook, or another peer-reviewed resource.
Counseling Handbook Paper: Title Page, Brief Outline, and References Assignment
The student will write a Counseling Handbook on a major topic within women’s issues. The topic must be approved by the instructor and must be related to 1 of the following units: life transitions, life enrichment, life problems, marital life, or family life. The Research Paper must include at least 10 scholarly sources. The paper, including citations, must follow current APA guidelines.
The student will compose the Title Page, Brief Outline (first and second-level headings only), and References page for the Research Paper. The student will have access to an APA template to master the current APA title page and references formatting.
Counseling Handbook Paper: Draft of Introduction and Part 1 Assignment
The student will write a Counseling Handbook on a major topic within women’s issues. The topic must be approved by the instructor and must be related to 1 of the following units: life transitions, life enrichment, life problems, marital life, or family life. The Research Paper must include at least 10 scholarly sources. The paper, including citations, must follow current APA guidelines.
The student will complete a draft of the introduction and first section of the Counseling Handbook paper and submit it with the remaining Outline and a References Page. The draft must include the expected resources for each level. The student will also include a list of at least 5 outside (this number will not include the required texts or Bible), current (within the last 10 years) resources in the current APA format. The student will have access to an APA template to master the current APA outline and reference page formatting.
Counseling Handbook Paper: Final Paper Assignment
The student will write a Counseling Handbook paper on a major topic within women’s issues. The topic must be approved by the instructor and must be related to 1 of the following units: life transitions, life enrichment, life problems, marital life, or family life. The Research Paper must include at least 10 scholarly sources. The paper, including citations, must follow current APA guidelines.
Utilizing information presented in this course, as well as theoretical and practical elements from academic and Christian sources, the student will compile an original Research Paper of 8–10 pages of the body text in the current APA format. The Counseling Handbook Paper: Final Paper Assignment must include the previously-created APA title page and references page and contain at least 10 scholarly sources in addition to the textbook and biblical integration. The title page and references page will not count toward the overall length requirement.
The student will complete 8 quizzes. The quizzes are open-note/open-book and will contain 10 multiple-choice and true/false questions. The student will have 1 hour to complete each quiz.
