Course Description
A practical field experience in military, healthcare, or community chaplaincy under the supervision of an approved mentor. The field, mentor, and nature of service must be approved beforehand by the professor. To receive 3 hours of credit, students must spend a minimum of 150 field hours.

Rationale
Seminary training in military, healthcare, or community chaplaincy is quite incomplete without practical experience and apprenticeship in the selected field under the supervision of qualified chaplains. This course will facilitate that experience.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- The student will analyze and formulate their calling, character, qualifications, and the demands required for being a chaplain pastor.
- The student will develop basic principles of leadership as a candidate for a ministry position as a chaplain pastor.
- The student will examine various areas of the chaplain pastor’s personal life that are affected by the role of pastoral ministry and how to develop a personal plan for maintaining balance in one’s personal life when in ministry.
- The student will evaluate the challenges of building an evangelical ministry with the possibility of serving in a diverse ministry setting.
Course Assignment
After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview Section.
Students will complete a Ministry Report and Reflection each module: week utilizing the provided template in the course for Modules 1–15. Students will utilize Module 16: Week 16 Ministry Report and Reflection to summarize the entire internship. (MLO: A, B, C, D)
In Modules 4, 8, 12, and 16 the student chaplain/minister will write and discuss an evaluation of the work attempted and completed during the period with his/her mentor/supervisor. This evaluation will focus on the progression of the chaplain/minister in his work, weaknesses, strengths, leadership abilities, and ministry goals. This review must be signed by the field mentor/supervisor, emailed to the course instructor, and submitted online. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
