Rationale

The course helps meet standards of graduate-level nursing education as articulated by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing.  This course meets the standards of nurse practitioner doctoral education as articulated by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF).

Course Assignment

Textbook Readings and Lecture Presentations

Students are expected read the assigned readings and view the presentations.

Discussions (2)

Contraception and Antenatal Complications.  These assignments provide the student an opportunity to work individually and collaboratively with their peers to present the essentials of diagnosis and management of selected contraceptive types and antenatal complications. Students will analyze and evaluate contraception forms and antenatal complications. The students will individually complete the initial post to the Discussion and then reply to 2 of their peers’ posts. (MLO: 1, 2, 3, 4).

Synchronous Meetings & Slide Presentation (2)

Students will meet via MS Teams with professors and classmates at the appointed time. Students are expected to present a slide on their presentation topic during the meeting and meet the standards of class attendance as outlined in the DNP Student Handbook.

Individual Presentation Assignment (2)

Vulvovaginitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, & Breast Health and Psychosocial Issues Specific to Women. The Women’s Health Presentation assignments provide the FNP student the opportunity to present a voice-over or Kaltura PowerPoint Presentation on the essentials of diagnosis and management of 2 women’s health conditions. Each student provides 2 individual presentations on women’s health topics of their choice related to vaginitis/STIs and psychosocial issues specific to women. The presentations will include signs and symptoms, differential diagnoses, diagnosis, treatment modalities, expected outcomes, and if, when, and to whom to refer. (MLO 1, 2, 3, 4).

Content Quizzes (5)

There will be 5 content quizzes scheduled and administered throughout the semester. These quizzes will contain 40 multiple-choice, true/false, matching, short-answer type questions about specific content from lectures and readings. Students will be provided with 60 minutes to complete each quiz. Quizzes will not be cumulative or comprehensive. Proctor testing software will be used to administer the quizzes. (MLO 1, 2, 3, 4)

Final Comprehensive Quiz

There will be a Final Comprehensive Quiz scheduled and administered during the final week of class. This comprehensive quiz will contain 200 points divided into 148 multiple-choice, true/false, matching, or short-answer type questions about content from lectures, assignments, presentations, and readings. Students will have 180 minutes to complete the exam. Proctor testing software will be used to administer the final quiz.    (MLO: 1, 2, 3, 4).
