Course Description

A survey of the evidence for the central truths of Christianity: the existence of God, the deity and resurrection of Christ, and the authority and truth of the Bible.

This course exists to provide students with the skills necessary to put their biblical knowledge into action. One of the primary goals of this program is to equip students to effectively share their faith with this world. In this course, students will be challenged to synthesize their biblical and theological education in a way that spurs them toward praxis. This course aims to create effectively-trained ministers of the New Covenant who can go into the world and give the reasons for our hope (2 Peter 3:15).

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Create a reasoned defense of the Christian faith.
  2. Summarize the reasons why non-Christians reject the gospel.
  3. Outline the minimalist approach for presenting an apologetic of Christ’s resurrection.
  4. Defend a biblical worldview in light of contemporary criticisms against Christianity.
  5. Identify logical fallacies.
  6. Design an action plan for implementing intentional apologetics in their life.

After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Course Overview.

Discussions (4)

The student is required to create a thread in response to the provided topic for each discussion. Each thread is to be 300-400 words and support assertions with at least 2 citations in the current Turabian format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 100-250 words and support assertions with at least 1 citation for each reply in the current Turabian format. (MLOs: A, D, E)

Apologetic Interviews Assignments

The student will interview 4 individuals who do not consider themselves to be Christians. The interviews will consist of prescripted questions regarding the individual’s worldview and view of Christianity. The student must follow the instructions and use the template provided in the Assignment Instructions folder. (MLOs: B)

Resurrection Apologetic Assignment

The student will present a summary and defense of Christ’s resurrection using the minimalist facts argument. This paper should follow the instructions and template provided in the course along with Turabian guidelines. The paper must be 1000-1300 words in length and includes 4-6 scholarly references (two of which should be utilized in the Minimalist Fact Argument section). (MLOs: C)

Apologetic Action Plan Assignment

The student will submit a personal action plan regarding how they anticipate applying an apologetic lifestyle in their life based on what they have learned in this course. This action plan will follow a specific outline and template provided in the Assignment Instructions folder. This assignment should be 3-5 pages in length, double-spaced, in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font. (MLOs: F)

Quizzes (3)

The student will complete three quizzes in the course. Quiz: Fallacy is an open-book/open-notes quiz that contains 20 multiple-choice questions. The student will have 45 minutes to complete this quiz, which can be taken up to 3 times. Both Quiz: Midterm and Quiz: Final contain 20–25 questions consisting of multiple-choice, are open-book/open-notes, and the student will have 60 minutes to complete them. (MLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
