This course is required for all aviation majors and designed for all students interested in an aviation career. Includes a general introduction to current aviation and historical events. This course includes an overview of basic aviation terminology and potential careers in aviation. Further, it will expose students to a vast array of careers within the aviation sector. This course will introduce a student to Part 141 flight training, Aviation Medicals, and the Restricted ATP program.

Rationale

The purpose of the Aviation Survey is to expose students to an array of aviation fundamentals. These fundamentals are key components that will set the path for all aviators as they begin their journey in aviation. Students in this course will explore many different career paths in aviation as well as challenge themselves in deciphering passion for aviation and God’s calling into an aviation career.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify specific events and eras in U.S. Aviation history and particular venues of the aviation industry.
  2. Explain the benefits and current issues of both personal and business aviation.
  3. Describe the value of local airports and the aviation industry to the community.
  4. Compare and contrast FAA Part 61 and FAA Part 141 Flight Training.
  5. Identify the types of FAA Aviation Medicals.
  6. Identify the benefits of the Restricted ATP.
  7. Validate God’s calling to pursue an aviation career.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

The student must submit a 2–3 minute video introduction. Specific elements described in the provided prompt must be included. This will be a graded assignment. The student must reply to at least 2 classmates’ introductions. Each reply must contain at least 100 words.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided promptly for each discussion. Each thread must be 400–500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. At least 2 scholarly sources are required for the initial thread. Acceptable sources are course readings, Bible, and peer-reviewed journal articles. At least 1 biblical principle must be integrated. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words. (MLO: A, C, D, F)

Within each Module: Week’s Learn and Apply section, the student will find interactive study activities. These activities are to provide the student with an additional resource to help learn the material covered within this course. The interactive activities will be graded for completion.
