Course Description
This course is designed to familiarize the student with the theoretical and practical management perspectives embraced by the American criminal justice system. This will address the nature of criminal justice organizations, individual and group behavior within those organizations, processes inherent in those organizations, and areas of criminal justice reform.

Rationale
From the perspective of the Criminal Justice Leader, students will study and understand the relevant challenges in organizational management and leadership. In order to fully understand the dynamics of Criminal Justice Organizations, we will examine the current issues impacting the criminal justice organizational environment including occupational socialization, organizational conflict, and organizational effectiveness.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze contemporary criminal justice issues/problems, and citizen concerns, based on established public safety theories and current law enforcement practices.
- Compare and contrast organizational cultural influences and their impact on one’s personal biblical worldview by analyzing organizational cultures in policing.
- Evaluate the complexity of the criminal justice environment and describe the implications to organizational performance caused by the differences between management supervision and leadership supervision.
- Analyze the components of effective supervision as it relates to personnel development, motivation, organizational culture, and socialization.
- Design strategies for managing change by evaluating the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of an organization.

The student will complete quizzes within the third-party platform, Cengage MindTap. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and the grade will transfer to Canvas.
Discussions: (5)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be a minimum of 500 words, include at least 2 peer-reviewed sources cited in the current APA format, and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words, include at least 1 peer-reviewed source published within the last 5-10 years, and be cited in the current APA format.
Reflection Paper Assignment
Students will write a 2 pages reflection paper expressing their current worldview in regard to the subject of Administration of Justice Organizations. This paper’s content will include how the presentation in the Module: Week, Reading & Study folder influences the student’s worldview. Students will include a Christian and Biblical Worldview perspective.
Disciplinary Research Paper: The Criminal Justice System in It’s Environment Assignment
Students will write a 2.5 -3 page professional memorandum summarizing and analyzing the main issues in three court cases provide in the Module: Week.
Policy Development Research Paper: Draft Assignment
The student will assume the role of the policy manager for a law enforcement organization. The student must conduct research for best practices related to the regulation of police officers’ use of social media and develop a 5- page department policy. This research should include interviews with local law enforcement leaders to determine how they are addressing this issue. The student will also read the included study conducted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police in the Reading & Study folder of the Module: Week.
Disciplinary Research Paper: Decision Making Assignment
The student will continue to utilize the three case studies from Module: Week 3 and additional case studies will be introduced. After recognizing the main issues in the Disciplinary Research Paper: The Criminal Justice System In Its Environment Assignment, the student will write another 2.5 page recommendation for how to handle the issues described. The two Disciplinary Research Paper Assignments will be combined for a total of at least 5 pages and submitted during the Module: Week.
Policy Development Research Paper: Final Assignment
The student will interpret and apply instructor feedback from the Policy Development Research Paper: Draft Assignment. The student will make the necessary changes to their work and submit the final copy of their policy.
