Rationale

This course will examine the role Strategic Intelligence plays in national security to help the student study and analyze strategic successes and failures, and how the current U.S. Strategic Intelligence Enterprise is organized and functions to provide decision-makers with intelligence to prevent strategic surprise.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain more sophisticated concepts of intelligence.
  2. Analyze complicated intelligence operations, including intelligence failures in specific case histories.
  3. Evaluate complicated proposals for reorganizing the intelligence community.

The student will take part in 8 Discussions throughout this course. The student will post a thread of at least 500 words presenting his/her own opinion on the assigned topic. Each thread must be supported by at least 3 citations. Additionally, the student will post replies of at least 150 words each to 2 classmates’ threads.

Intelligence Failure Research Paper Assignment

The student will choose a topic directly related to the study of strategic intelligence and write a research paper on that topic, making use of at least 6 different sources. The paper must be written in the current APA format, have a body of at least 10 pages, and adhere to the standards of academic writing.

The student will complete a Quiz: Midterm and Quiz: Final. Both Quizzes are open-book/open-notes but are not to be collaborated on with any other person. Each Quiz will be 2 hours and will include 4 essay questions.
