Rationale
In the second health policy practicum course, students will continue gaining patient advocacy skills as they determine the impact of policy on healthcare availability and healthcare outcomes. Students will also learn the impact that they can have on healthcare policy development.

Health Disparity: Research Assignment
The student will write a 4–7-page research-based paper in the current APA format that focuses on Health Disparity. The paper must include at least 4 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Health Disparity: Presentation Assignment
The student will present his or her research from the paper prepared in Module 6: Week 6. The student may do a traditional presentation on the research paper or present on a recurring theme/issue found in the research that is part of the larger discussion of the health disparity the student has chosen. For example, the student may focus on diabetes in an urban housing project, but part of eliminating the disparity in his or her view may be to organize a community organization. The presentation may be focused on how to organize a community organized around a central issue that will help eliminate the health disparity.

The student will visit the Legiscan website and review the different types of legislation that are currently in process for his or her state. After selecting legislation, the student will complete some research regarding the topic of the legislation and complete an article review, using the provided template with instructions to complete this assignment.

Windshield Survey Assignment
Nurses must be able to knowledgeably plan services for individuals, families, and the community. To determine available health resources, it is essential to be aware of the resources specific to the community a client resides in to allow for the identification of health-related resources and to understand gaps in services. A windshield survey is conducted from a car and provides a visual overview of a community in which a particular population resides. Conditions and trends in the community that could affect the health of the population should be noted. This data provides background to help determine the needs of the community. Information gathered from this survey should be added to the template provided in Blackboard. If data is collected (statistical, informational, geographic), then a reference page using the current APA format is expected.

Practicum Log Assignments (2)
The Practicum Log is the documentation of the 200-hour practicum experience of which 75 hours will be completed in this course. The documentation is to be completed in Typhon. Instructions for setting up Typhon are found in the MSN Handbook. The log must be comprehensive in detail related to the experiences in the field and reflective of the National League for Nursing (NLN) competencies. The discussion must be in-depth and analytical. It must also include examples of how the student has applied the NLN competencies and readings from the textbooks and professional literature in the practicum setting. Any citations must be provided in the current APA format. Upon final approval of the practicum goals and objectives, the student will work on practicum hours weekly. Log submissions will be entered in Typhon.
NOTE: In addition to accruing the required number of practicum hours, there must be a passing grade for the practicum experience which includes the following: progression with the student’s established goals and objectives, an in-depth documentation of the practicum experiences as evidenced in the clinical log, and satisfactory preceptor evaluations. Failure to pass the practicum requirements will fail in the course; see the MSN Handbook for practicum expectations related to performance and professionalism.

Quiz: Practicum Evaluations (2)
The preceptor will complete an evaluation of the student at the end of the practicum experience. The evaluation will be sent electronically over a secured server through Typhon to the preceptor. The instructor will retain the preceptor evaluation and may review it with the student upon request. Refer to the MSN Handbook for important detailed information.
The student will complete a Self-Evaluation, and an Evaluation of the Site and Preceptor, and the preceptor will complete an evaluation of the student.
All evaluations must be completed and submitted as directed. Failure to submit any of the end-of-course evaluations will result in a final grade of “Incomplete.” The student will be unable to progress to the next practicum course until the grade of “Incomplete” is resolved.
Self-Evaluation
The student will complete a self-evaluation of his/her practicum experiences using the provided form. The student will upload a screenshot of the completed Self-Evaluation to the Quiz: Self-Evaluation.
The site and Preceptor Evaluation
The student will complete an evaluation of the site and preceptor for his/her practicum experience using the form provided. This document must be shared with the preceptor. Preceptor Evaluation
The preceptor will complete an evaluation of the student at the end of the practicum experience. The instructor will electronically send the evaluation to the preceptor via a secured server through Typhon.
