This course is designed to provide each student with an opportunity to learn about aspects of sport management through observation and application in work experiences.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Observe the implementation of a Christian worldview in various aspects of the chosen practicum organization.
- Describe the organizational environment and structure for the sports organization and the individual observers.
- Describe and articulate management functions and leadership skills in actual sports organizations.
- Appreciate similarities and differences in management styles in sports organizations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the working conditions and personal and professional qualifications required in sports organizations where they observe/work.

Practicum Agreement Quiz
This agreement simply confirms the student’s understanding of the Practicum and his/her responsibility to secure a location by the end of Module/Week 2. (MLO: E)
Practicum Site Form Submission
Once the student has secured an appropriate Practicum placement, he or she will complete this form and submit it for instructor review and site approval. (MLO: E)
Workbook Assignments (6)
The student will complete assignments found in his or her workbook. Workbook assignments due for a particular module/week will be posted in each module/week. The student is expected to thoroughly answer all questions associated with each assignment. Each completed workbook page will need to be scanned in and submitted through Blackboard. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
Résumé and Cover Letter Assignment
After viewing the Résumé and Cover Letter Workshop materials, the student must create a Résumé and Cover Letter. In addition, the student must find a sport-related job or internship that interests them, print the job description out, and write his or her Cover Letter for this position. Once completed the student must submit his or her Résumé and Cover Letter to the Liberty University Career Center. After receiving critiques on his or her Résumé and Cover Letter from the Career Center, the student will make revisions to his or her Résumé and Cover Letter and submit the following 5 documents to Blackboard:
The Critiqued Version of his or her Cover Letter
The Critiqued Version of his or her Résumé
The Revised Version of his or her Cover Letter
The Revised Version of his or her Résumé
The Job/Internship Description used when the student wrote his or her Cover Letter (MLO: B, C, E)
Simulation Application Assignment
The student must find a sport-related job or internship that interests him or her and print the job description out. The student will then use the Simulated Application Assignment to complete a mock application for this position. Additional research and job projections are also required. (MLO: E)
Log Sheet Submissions (7)
The student will turn in all of the Log Sheets showing 70 hours of observation/work which his or her supervisor has signed off on at the end of each module/week and is submitted as a whole on the last module/week of the course. Any modules/weeks not signed off will result in the loss of those hours in the final Log Sheet grade.
Anything less than 70 signed documented hours will automatically result in a reduction of the awarded points.
If a practicum student is dismissed from a practicum site, the student will receive an “F” grade for the course and can be dismissed from the Sport Management Program.
Each student will submit a written report from his or her observation/work experience for each week in the form of log sheets. In addition to the student’s name, phone number, practicum site, site supervisor’s name, beginning date, number of hours of observation/work for each day of the week, and a brief description of tasks undertaken during the week at the practicum site, the student will be asked to report on the following:
Any unique or unusual occurrence on-site during the week.
Any enjoyable circumstances on-site during the week.
Any attitudinal changes experienced toward the observation/work assignment.
Is any new thing learned from the observation/work assignment during the week?
The most exciting event of the week. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
Each site supervisor will complete the supervisor’s final evaluation of the student’s on-site performance during the student’s practicum experience. The supervisor will base their evaluation on the following criteria: Interpersonal Relationships, Initiative, Reliability, Judgment, Attitude toward Work, Willingness, Quality of Work, Attendance, Punctuality, and Overall Performance.
It is the student’s responsibility, once the practicum hours are completed, to ask his or her supervisor to complete the supervisor’s final evaluation. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
The test/exam will cover the Reading & Study material for the course. The test will contain multiple-choice, true/false, and essay questions. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
