After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussion (1)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each line must be 200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. The line must support assertions with at least 2 citations from the required reading and presentation sources assigned. In addition to the line, the candidate is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 100 words and cite at least 1 source from the reading or presentation. (MLO: A)

Journal Entry and Weekly Log Assignments (7)

The candidate will submit a 2- to 3-paragraph journal entry summarizing the week at school. The candidate’s entries should reflect personal experiences about what was learned and what challenges were faced while also responding to a prompt. Weekly hours will be logged and also recorded in LiveText.

During select weeks, the FEM will be checked for the recording of hours. The candidate must input his/her direct and indirect hours in the “View Placement Details” in the FEM; the onsite mentor must then approve those hours. (MLO: B)

Weekly Schedule and Lesson Plan Assignments (4)

The candidate will submit weekly schedules for his/her placement each Monday before the week the schedule will be used. Additionally, the candidate will submit lesson plans each Monday before the week the lessons are to be taught. The lesson plans for the first 5 lessons taught for each core subject area will be written as detailed lesson plans. After completing the 5 detailed lesson plans for a core subject area, the candidate can use block lesson plans for the subsequent lessons. The differences between completing the 2 kinds and further guidelines are outlined in the course. (MLO: C, D, E)

Licensure Requirements for the Portfolio

There are several certifications the candidate will need to complete for their license. These will be uploaded into the portfolio. The candidate will complete the certification modules that apply to their degree and attach a copy of each completed module certificate to the Evidence of Scholarship/Competencies and Skills section of their portfolio. Video Lesson Assignment

For the course instructor to be able to observe and evaluate the candidate’s teaching, the candidate will need to make arrangements to have 1 of his/her lessons videotaped. The candidate will then submit the recorded lesson in LiveText. The recorded lesson must be 30 minutes or less and include the entire lesson, from beginning to end. (MLO: C, D, E, F)

Field Experience Assessment Assignment

The Field Experience Assessment Assignment is completed in two parts in LiveText. The completed FES form should be submitted for review, and a reflection regarding these experiences should also be included. Failure to complete all areas on the FES form will impact the final course grade and will hinder the candidate from proceeding to Gate 4. (MLO: A, C, D, E)

Portfolio Assignment

The candidate will complete the portfolio he/she has worked on throughout the program and submit it via LiveText to the course instructor. (MLO: C, D, E, F)

P-12 Survey Assignment

The P-12 Survey Assignment is a way for the candidate to receive feedback from students about their perceptions of the candidate’s instruction and effectiveness as a teacher. The assignment should be completed in LiveText near the end of the candidate’s student teaching placement. (MLO: F)

University Supervisor Observation Assignment

The University Supervisor will complete the observation form provided in the Student Teaching Handbook for a formal lesson the candidate teaches during the placement. (MLO: C, D, E, F)

Final CPAST Assignment

The candidate’s Cooperating Teacher will complete this assessment through the FEM in LiveText. The consensus score report should be submitted by the candidate in Canvas. (MLO: A, C, D, E, F)

Quiz: Program Completer Contact Survey

The candidate will complete a quiz after submitting a survey providing the School of Education information to continue contact after graduation.
