Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of the history and narrative of the Old Testament books, Genesis–2 Samuel.
  2. Discuss the application of the Pentateuch in today’s world.
  3. Analyze some of the Middle-Eastern cultural expressions found in Genesis–Deuteronomy.
  4. Evaluate Middle-Eastern history during the time of the Patriarchs and Exodus (2100 B.C.–1400 B.C.).
  5. Discuss the theological perspectives of Genesis–Deuteronomy focusing on how the Pentateuch–Scripture presents God.
  6. Explain the transition from the theocracy to monarchy in Israelite History.
  7. Give a thorough description of Israelite History from Creation to King David’s reign.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

There will be 5 Discussions throughout this course. Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to post a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread is to be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student must reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 175 words. (MLOs: A, B, C, D, E, F, G)

The student will complete 2 Interpretive Papers based on the given topics. These papers must each be 600-750 words and use current Turabian formatting. A minimum of 2 sources must be cited in each paper. These papers will be 125 points each. (MLOs: A, B, F, G)

The student will complete 7 quizzes in this course. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and contain 20 true/false and/or multiple-choice questions. The student will have 45 minutes to complete each quiz. (MLOs: A, B, C, D, E, F, G)
