Course Summary
An enhancement and development of the exposure to Greek word formation, the verbal system, and syntax. Emphasis is placed on developing skills for the use of various linguistic helps in performing Greek language word studies (semantic range studies and semantic domain studies). The pragmatic use of Greek for Bible exposition is emphasized.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

- Employ Greek language tools in the syntactical analysis of a Greek text.
- Create a block diagram of the Greek text of a passage.
- Exegete is a New Testament passage with awareness of the significant features of the Greek text.
- Assess the data in New Testament exegetical commentaries based on the features of the Greek text.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 200 words. Total Quiz: Exegetical Passage Selection
The student will submit a selection of a passage for the exegetical paper assignment from an approved list of passages. The passage will be used for the exegesis paper assignment as well as the discussions, the block diagram assignment, and the syntax analysis assignment. (MLO: D)
Vocabulary Review Assignment
The Vocabulary Review Quiz will cover the “Words Used 500 Times or More” list in Metzger’s Lexical Aids. The assessment will be closed-book/closed-notes, multiple choice. It is graded for completion rather than accuracy. (MLO: A)
Block Diagram Assignment
The student will submit a block diagram of the Greek text of the passage selected for the exegetical paper. The Greek text should be taken from the NA27/28, UBS4/5, or SBLGNT text. The diagram must analyze the phrases and clauses of the passage by using the block diagramming method from Thornhill’s Greek for Everyone. (MLOs: B, C)
Syntax Analysis Assignment
The student will submit a syntax analysis of 10 selected Greek words from the passage selected for the exegetical paper. The Greek text should be taken from the NA27/28, UBS4/5, or SBLGNT text. The analysis must parse and analyze significant terms from the passage using the categories given in Thornhill’s Greek for Everyone as well as the readings in Beale et al, Harris, and any other supplemental resources necessary. Exegesis Paper Assignment
The student will write a 10–12 page research-based paper in the current Turabian format that focuses on explaining the contextual meaning of the passage utilizing the tools, methods, and resources described in Thornhill’s Greek for Everyone as well as the readings in Merkle and Plummer’s Greek for Life. The paper must include at least 8 scholarly sources in addition to interacting with the Greek text. (MLOs: A, B, D, E)
