Course Description

This is the first of three courses in a general survey of Bible doctrine designed to introduce the student to the major areas of systematic theology. This course presents the following areas of doctrine: Prolegomena, the doctrine of the Trinity, the doctrine of the Father, the doctrine of the Bible (bibliology), and the doctrine of Prophecy (eschatology). The theology survey is continued in THEO 108.

Rationale

Willmington School of the Bible provides its students with a holistic understanding of the Scriptures. In so doing, it is necessary to develop a thorough understanding of Christian doctrine as it is presented throughout the Bible. This course, together with THEO 108 and THEO 109, provides students with a firm theological grounding that will serve as a guide in “rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15 [KJV]).

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze the doctrines of the Trinity, Bible, Father, and Christ as they are presented in this course.
  2. Interact cordially with others of differing theological perspectives.
  3. Offer adequate solutions to tough questions about the existence of God.
  4. Recognize the basic concepts and definitions of the doctrines of the Trinity, Bible, Father, and Christ.
  5. Discuss the implications of theology for Christian life and personal ministry.
  6. Answer questions of personal interest concerning the world and God.
  7. Apply truths and principles associated with each major doctrinal study.

Discussions (3)

The student is required to create a thread in response to the provided topic for each discussion. Each thread is to be at least 300 words and support assertions with at least 2 citations in the current Turabian format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 100 words. (MLOs: A, B, C, E)

Capstone Project: Topic and Rationale Assignment

The student will submit a topic for the Final Project and the rationale behind that selection. The student will also state if the project will be submitted as a document or as a PowerPoint presentation. (MLOs: A, E, G)

Inspiration and Inerrancy Paper Assignment

A short writing assignment requiring the student to differentiate between inspiration and inerrancy and their relation to each other as held by evangelical Christianity. This will be an analysis responding to specific questions. (MLOs: A, E, F, G)

Capstone Project: Final Submission Assignment

The student will write a 4-6 page paper on a topic about the doctrines covered in the course. This final project must contain at least 7 scholarly sources and must include a title page and bibliography. (MLOs: A, E, F, G)

Quizzes (3)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for each Module: The week in which the assigned topic is covered. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 10 multiple-choice and true/false questions, 2 essay questions, and have a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. (MLO: D)
