Course Description

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to prepare the student to complete the FAA knowledge and practical test and to have a better understanding of the aviation career for which he/she is preparing.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Apply aviation terms and concepts in written and/or oral communication.
2. Obtain and evaluate data from aviation weather products.
3. Understand and apply the procedures required to operate in the national airspace system.
4. Evaluate aircraft performance and operating characteristics to produce calculations for cross-country flight planning.
5. Demonstrate the knowledge of the subject areas evaluated on the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Exam.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

The student will submit a 2–3 minute video presentation introducing themselves to their classmates. Specific elements described in the assignment are to be included. This will be a graded assignment and you must reply to at least two other classmate introductions as well.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge and integrate at least 1 biblical principle. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words. (MLO: A-G)

The student will complete weekly assignments within the Cessna/King Schools web-based course.

At the end of each section/module within the Cessna/King Schools web-based course, there are questions (multiple choice, fill in the blank, or short answer). These questions will all be based on the content that was presented to you within the section/module. Your score for this weekly assignment will be based on the percentage of questions that were answered correctly on your first attempt.

Example:

80% correct first attempt x 20 points available = 16 points for quiz.

Each week upload the Cessna course “Phase Progress Report” to the Canvas assignment page.  (MLO: A-G)

The student will complete and submit a written essay about a topic relevant to Private flying as assigned or approved by the course professor. The essay will be graded by a standardized grading rubric.

Students are to use what they learned within the Cessna/King Schools web-based course and prepare a Narrated PowerPoint presentation planning a VFR Cross Country from their local airport to a destination at least 50nm away.

The visual presentation must include a 15-minute maximum recorded Narrated PowerPoint presentation. This presentation must contain written explanations on each slide. The project should be at least 8 slides in the current APA format. (MLO: A-G)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain various questions, and have a 90-minute time limit. (MLO: A-G)

Written Exam Practice Tests

Students will complete three practice exams within the Cessna/King Schools Course. On completion of three successful tests with a score of 90% or better, the student will be issued an endorsement to take the FAA Written Exam.

Schedule FAA Written Exam date. Students must schedule a time with an approved testing center to take the test. This must be completed by the end of week 4, and the FAA Written Exam must be completed before the end of the course.

To complete AVIA 215 and receive a 14 CFR 141 ground graduation certificate, the student must complete all of the training elements included in this course, and the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam test must be passed with a minimum score of 70%.

The score that you receive on your written exam will be multiplied by the total number of points this assignment is worth. Please see below for an example. Please keep in mind, each student must receive a 70% or better to receive any credit. If a student receives lower than a 70%, a score of 0 will be recorded for this assignment.

Example: If you score 80% on your FAA Knowledge Exam, then 80% of 400 points = 320 Points.

• Rotorcraft or fixed-wing pilots may submit their FAA certificate that is equal to or higher than this course and receive full credit for this assignment.
• CAUTION: By receiving a certificate/rating-based alternative credit or an alternative final exam option, the student understands that they will not be eligible to receive a Part 141 graduation certificate or participate in the RATP program.
