Course Description
This course focuses on assessing and mitigating risk in the financial industry while integrating insurance considerations to manage both risks and returns. Topics include business and personal risk, corporate investments, diversification, ownership, the party, and legal liability.

Rationale
Risk management is one of the most critical aspects of a financial plan. Through appropriate and adequate risk management strategies, clients drastically increase their success rate to accomplish their financial goals. Additionally, this course is part of the core CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNING™ designation educational curriculum, allowing students to sit for the national CFP® designation exam.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Interpret risk management principles through a biblical perspective.
- Create plans to address risk exposures associated with personal and business insurance to include disability, health care, and long-term care needs.
- Develop a life insurance plan that meets client goals and considers tax implications.
- Understand different types of risk and the impact of each risk on clients’ finances.
- Explain the elements and characteristics of insurance contracts.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided topic that must be at least 350 words, include at least 2 sources, and integrate information drawn from experience and course-related information (books, articles, and presentations). In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words and integrate information drawn from experience and course-related information (books, articles, and presentations).
End of Chapter Discussion Questions Assignments(4)
The student will answer multiple discussion questions found at the end of each chapter. The student must answer each assigned question in enough detail to provide a thorough response to the question/statement.
Case Study Assignments (3)
There are 3 short Written Assignments in the course. These assignments are based on a case study that is provided by the instructor. These case studies are designed to help the student to begin to incorporate the content they are learning and begin to apply them to various real-life situations.
Quizzes (3)
Each quiz will cover the Textbook material for the assigned modules. Each quiz will have a 1-hour and 30-minute time limit, multiple choice and true/false questions, and will consist of 25 questions.
Quiz: Final Exam
The quiz final comprehensive exam will be open-book/open-notes, contain 100 multiple-choice questions, and have a 3-hour time limit. The quiz will cover all topics covered throughout this course.
