Course Description
The Capstone is designed for those with two or more years of full-time, paid vocational ministry experience. Course approval must be done in advance by the Director of Experiential Education.
This course will require students to resource knowledge acquired from the entirety of the coursework completed in the MDIV degree program. The core competencies and knowledge from each major area of the degree will be resourced in a comprehensive project that outlines a broad understanding of divinity and a developing ministerial identity.

Rationale
The course requires the student to resource knowledge acquired from the entirety of coursework completed in the MDiv degree program in order to demonstrate a proficient understanding of key biblical issues within the student’s cultural context.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop a global Great Commission perspective that demonstrates the proclamation and application of the gospel and disciple-making process.
- Examine major critical issues in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible from a conservative evangelical perspective, while exhibiting knowledge of the literature appropriate to the field of Biblical Studies.
- Examine theological positions on key doctrinal questions and issues in Christian thought through research and appropriate theological practice.

Discussion: What is the Gospel?
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided promptly. The thread must be 300-500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150-200 words. Statement of Faith Assignments (2)
The student will write two Statement of Faith papers in the current Turabian format that focuses on various topics given in the instructions. For each topic, the paper must include: a title, a concise 150-250 word summary stating what the Bible presents as essential to that topic, a documented quote from a Christian leader in church history––not from the Bible––born before 1900 A.D., and at least 10 Bible verses. Statement of Position Assignment
The student will write a Statement of Position in the current Turabian format that focuses on 4 different cultural concepts. For each concept, the paper must include a title, a concise 150-250 word summary stating the student’s contextual understanding of what the Bible teaches in relation to that concept, and at least 5 Bible verses. (MLOs: A, B, C)
Book Critique Assignment
The student will write a Book Critique. For each chapter of the book (and the Introduction), the student must present a 100-200 word summary for each of these and a 100-200 word response critique on each of these. The response must include a statement of agreement or disagreement, followed by justification for that position, and must utilize at least 3 distinct biblical passages. Citations must follow current Turabian formatting. (MLOs: A, B, C)
Strategic Discipleship Guide Assignment
The student will write a 150-250 word response regarding discipleship for each of the 3 provided prompts, in accordance with the instruction provided after having read the 3 articles provided. (MLOs: A, C)
Witness Report Assignment
The student will write a 300–900-word report on a witnessing encounter that occurred during this course. The report must briefly describe the person(s) with whom the student shared, describe what was shared and how it was shared, and describe the response of the other person(s). (MLOs: A, C)
Quiz: Knowing our Theology
The quiz will cover the Learn material for Modules 1-2: Weeks 1–2. The quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 48 multiple-choice, true/false, and essay questions, and have a 2-hour time limit. (MLOs: A, B, C)
Quiz: Square One
The student will take a quiz on the reading of the book Square One. The Quiz will be open-book/open-notes and have a 2-hour time limit. The student will be asked to give an account of the reading and then answer 2 general essay questions. (MLOs: A, B, C)
