Course Description
This course will introduce the student to the historical, philosophical, legislative, and societal overview of offender rehabilitation and reintegration in corrections settings and in community-based settings.

Rationale
This course will help the student relate to the latest information on rehabilitation, reentry, and reintegration of offenders. The student will have access to empirical studies and findings from current research, as well as theoretical discussions which will facilitate the development of his/her critical thinking skills in regards to these complex issues. This course will explore the challenges encountered by convicted offenders.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze the relationship between U.S. imprisonment policies and the challenges associated with offender reentry.
- Recognize the barriers to, and drivers of, successful offender reintegration and rehabilitation.
- Describe the interrelated effects of offender reentry on communities, public safety, health, families, and individuals.
- Evaluate the concepts of reintegration and desistance from crime, and how the criminal justice system and offender programs can facilitate successful reentry and reduce offending.
- Apply biblical principles to the discussion of rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders.

Discussions (6)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided promptly for each forum. Each thread must be 400–550 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words. Each thread must support the student’s assertions with at least 3 citations in current APA format, and each reply must be supported by at least 2 citations.
Research Paper: Proposal Assignment
The student will submit a 1 – 2-page proposal for his/her Research Paper: Final with a list of the topic/content choices, academic references, and chosen Scriptures. The paper must include at least 5 references in addition to the course textbook and the Bible (for a total of 7 references). Your proposal may be in outline or paper format.
Thought Paper Assignment
The student will write a 3 – 4 page research-based paper in the current APA format that focuses on the student’s personal analysis of prison-based and community interventions. The paper must include a reference page and cite at least 3 references to include at least one of the readings from the assigned textbook.
Research Paper: Final Assignment
The student will write an 8 – 10 page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on new rehabilitation approaches and the evaluation of these treatment service innovations. The paper must include at least 5 references in addition to the course textbook and the Bible (for a total of 7 references). Be sure to include the references you may have noted on your proposal for a total of 7 references.
