This course is an exploration of the age of Reagan—i.e. the period from roughly 1964 to 1990. Particular focus is on American politics, foreign policy, economic affairs, political ideologies, social issues, and popular culture.

This course will provide the student with a more detailed approach to American history and society in the second half of the 20th century—specifically as it relates to Ronald Reagan and politics in the period between 1964 and 1990.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the major political and social leaders of the 1980s, including members of the Reagan administration and democrats in Congress.
- Discuss the major political, social, intellectual, economic, and popular trends of the 1970s and 1980s.
- Detail the major domestic and foreign policies of the Reagan administration.
- Demonstrate an understanding of President Reagan’s legacy in American history, as well as his place in recent historical scholarship.
- Demonstrate competencies in reading comprehension and historical writing, including conveying and analyzing ideas.
- Apply biblical principles to the problems and issues of American history since 1976.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to submit a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words. For each thread, the student’s assertions must be supported with at least 2 citations in current Turabian format. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 citation. Acceptable sources include course readings and campaign videos (speeches and television advertisements).
Annotated Bibliography/Prospectus Assignment
The student will write a 1-page summary of his or her plans for the Final Paper. The student will also provide an annotated bibliography of at least 8 primary sources and 5 secondary sources. Each title should have a 4 to 6-sentence-long paragraph describing the importance of that particular work to the larger project. The summary and bibliography must be in the current Turabian format.
Research Paper Assignment
The student will write an 8-10 page research-based paper in the current Turabian format that focuses on an element of the Reagan presidency (or the 1970s and 1980s). The topic must be approved by the instructor. The paper must include at least 8 primary sources and 8 secondary sources in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

This quiz will cover Ronald Reagan and His Quest to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. The quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 25 multiple-choice and true/false questions and 1 short answer, and have a 45-minute time limit.
Quiz: Primary Sources (8)
Each quiz will be based on content presented in a primary source video for the assigned Module: Week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 5 multiple-choice questions, and have a 15-minute time limit.
Total Quizzes (8)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes; contain 31 multiple-choice, true/false, and short answer questions, and have a 45-minute time limit.
