Course Description
This course is designed to prepare students to preach from the New Testament. Special attention will be given to genres and theological themes that arise from the New Testament text.

Rationale
This course is designed to further students’ understanding of the principles and method of biblical preaching by concentrating on issues particular to expounding the New Testament. Students will be challenged to develop and utilize proper homiletical tools related to New Testament genres, doctrines, and methods.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate New Testament texts both exegetically and homiletically.
- Interpret the different types of literature/genres in the New Testament.
- Employ significant doctrines related to preaching the New Testament.
- Justify interpretations of difficult passages in the New Testament.
- Develop textual and thematic New Testament series.

Discussions (2)
The student is required to write a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words. (MLOs: A, B, C, D)
Sermon Manuscript Discussions (3)
The Discussions in Modules 2-7: Weeks 2-7 are focused on providing and receiving peer feedback on the Sermon Manuscript Assignments. These Discussions are intended to assist students in evaluating sermons according to their hermeneutical and homiletical content in order to deepen their understanding of sermon design. All Discussion Threads are due in the even-numbered modules (2, 4, 6) in conjunction with the corresponding Sermon Manuscript assignment. For the Discussion Thread, students should post their manuscript in the Discussion. All Discussion Replies are due in the subsequent odd-numbered modules (3, 5, 7). Discussion Replies should be at least 400 words and should provide a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the hermeneutical and homiletical aspects of at least two classmates. The Discussion Replies must also reference ideas from the sample sermon video for that Module: Week to inform their critique. (MLOs: A, B, D)
The student will complete 3 Sermon Manuscripts using the worksheets from McDill’s text 12 Essential Skills for Great Preaching as a guide. Each sermon manuscript will be a 12–14-page manuscript based on the passages listed within the course. Each manuscript will utilize the appropriate formatting to demonstrate the various elements of the sermon. (MLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
