Course Description
This course is the first of two sequential flight training courses that include the requisite aircraft and simulator training and experience required for the FAA Private Pilot practical test.

Rationale
The purpose of Aviation 220 is to prepare the student to complete the flight syllabus stage one practical check flight. The student must be competent in these maneuvers and meet the FAA pilot training standards. This course is required by the FAA to meet minimum standards and normally precedes the first solo flight.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate flight maneuvers within FAA practical test standards.
- Evaluate safe techniques for takeoffs and landings.
- Describe proper radio techniques and procedures.
- Discuss the principles of flight through a biblical worldview.

Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1. (10 pts)
Class Introduction
The student is to submit a brief written introduction to the professor and classmates via a Blackboard discussion thread. Specific elements described in the assignment are to be included. (10 pts)
Flight Course Student Information Quiz
This quiz consists of questions that were pulled from content within the FTA Student Handbook and the student video presentations attached in the reading and study section of module 1. This is an open book and open video exam that consists of 20 questions (multiple choice, true/false, and short answer). This exam is required and will provide you with some very important information for your success.

FTA and TCO Information Quiz
The FTA and TCO Information Quiz is about the Flight Training Affiliate and its Training Course Outline (TCO) or Flight Training Syllabus information. Students need to know the minimum flight hours and the number of flight lessons required to complete their Private Pilot course. (60 points)
Quizzes (4)
Each quiz will cover the Reading and Study material from your ground courses and/or flying. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes; contain 20 multiple-choice and true/false questions and at least 2 essay questions. Quizzes are timed and limited to 1 hour and 30 minutes. (50 pts each)
Video Presentation
The student will prepare and submit a presentation on a relevant course topic/procedure assigned in the presentation instructions located on Blackboard. (100 pts)
Progress Reports (8)
The student will submit, via Blackboard, a written summary of training completed during the week. This is to serve as an ongoing training journal, with biblical principles incorporated. (30 pts each)
Completion of first 50% of FTA Private Pilot TCO
The student will attempt to complete 50% of the FTA’s Private Pilot TCO/Flight Training Syllabus. If this milestone is not met, points will be awarded to IAW in the following schedule:
30% to 35% of TCO Completed: 160 pts
36% to 41% of TCO Completed: 260 pts
42% to 49% of TCO Completed: 310 pts
50% or greater of TCO Completed: 370 pts
