As a digital storyteller, part of learning the craft is commanding the necessary tools that help to shape the story. Just as the ability to write is crucial to good storytelling, non-linear editing is critical to focusing that story in a digital world. The quality, quantity, and complexity of the tools are continually increasing—which means skills must also grow. This course is about developing proficiency in the most prominent, professional video editing platforms available today. From establishing a timeline to exporting a finished product ready for distribution, this course will lay a foundation for editing stories of various lengths, scopes, and tones.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate relevant knowledge of how Christian principles are expressed in the practice of digital storytelling.
- Analyze the way meaning is structured and perceived in digital video project assembly.
- Demonstrate understanding of the techniques and practices of digital video editing in all phases of production; use of relevant tools for each of these stages.
- Create digital media products that demonstrate an understanding of the technology, technique, and process of non-linear editing.
- Demonstrate skills in the basic operation of select Adobe CC applications and workflow.
- Demonstrate understanding of professional habits in post-production management.

Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
The student will complete 3 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 300 words. The student must then post 2 replies of at least 150 words each.
Video Editing Project Assignments (3)
The student will be assigned various video and audio editing projects with an increasing level of complexity, to develop and illustrate technical and aesthetic decision-making skills from the video editor’s perspective. The required text for this course includes tutorial media necessary to complete the editing exercises. Additionally, tutorial videos and exercises will be available through Lynda.com to augment the learning of the software. Completed Adobe Premiere project files (.prproj) must be turned in to receive credit.
Each quiz will cover the Jago readings for the previous 2 assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 12 – 25 multiple-choice, multiple-answer, true/false, and matching questions, and have a 1-hour time limit.
PR Project Assignments (4)
The Premiere Project Assignments are smaller projects that test individual knowledge of the subjects learned during that module/week. Three of them involve submitting a screenshot of the finished project and the fourth involves submitting a project file. These projects only test students’ knowledge of 1 or 2 aspects of the program and not multiple as do the Video Editing Project Assignments.
