The sources and impact of various forms of government intervention in the private business sector, including the economic effects of regulation, the legal functions of various agencies, and rulemaking and regulatory powers and limitations of government t t administrative agencies.

Rationale
This course is designed to familiarize the student with the content of specific laws, rules, and regulations of government agencies (mostly federal) as imposed on the private sector and the processes by which the agencies operate. It will also deal with the economic effects of various regulations on the economy as a whole, certain sectors of the economy, and individuals.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply a variety of social science concepts and analytical tools to the study of government regulation within the larger field of law and public policy.
- Evaluate the connection between life, liberty, and property, as well as the effectiveness of the American constitutional system in protecting them.
- Examine the sources—legislative, judicial, and administrative—and historical development of the social service state, especially in the United States.
- Assess the mission and socioeconomic impact of selected regulatory laws, rules, and agencies.
- Compare competing regulatory regimes as well as schools of thought about the rise and operation of the regulatory and administrative state.
- Integrate biblical truths in the study of government regulation within the larger field of law and public policy.

Discussions (3)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided promptly for each discussion. Each discussion will require a thread between 300–400 words, and a minimum of 2 replies to 2 other classmates’ threads, with each reply between 150–250 words.
Case Study Assignments (4)
The student will be required to write a critique of 4 case studies in the course. Each case study critique will be at least 400 words and must discuss the major facts of the case. The student must tell whether or not they believe the right decision(s) was/were made and why. These assignments must be submitted through Turnitin.
Chapter Assessment Assignments (8)
Each chapter assessment assignment will cover the Learn material for the modules: weeks in which the text readings are assigned in the publisher platform. They are designed to support comprehension of key concepts noted in the learning objectives.
Quiz: Reinforcement Activities (3)
Each quiz reinforcement activity will cover the Learn & Interact Textbook material for the modules: weeks in which it is assigned in the publisher platform.
Article Critique Assignment
The student will write an article critique from provided articles, in at least 600 words, summarizing and critiquing the article. This assignment must be submitted through Turnitin.
Research Paper: Topic Outline Assignment
The student must submit a well-developed paper outline in the current APA format including all paper headings and subheadings that are clear and concise.
Research Paper: Bibliography Assignment
The student must submit a bibliography containing 5–7 sources in the current APA format. The information given in the bibliography must be sufficient to retrieve the source easily. The student will carefully research these sources to ensure that they are scholarly.
Research Paper: Final Assignment
The student will write a 4–6-page paper on a course-related topic in the current APA format. The student must cite from 5–7 sources. This paper must be submitted through the Turnitin link.
Quizzes (4)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the modules: weeks in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 24–32 questions, and will have a 1-hour and 45-minute time limit.
