This course provides a comprehensive overview of the origin, philosophy, and objectives of the juvenile justice system. An extensive and systematic analysis of juvenile justice policies and practices will be undertaken, especially those reflecting any recent philosophical shifts. Students will be challenged to critically examine present policies and propose practical new policies related to juvenile justice.

The purpose of this course is for students to examine the origin and objectives of the juvenile justice system and the way American philosophical shifts affect juvenile justice policy. Students in the School of Government need to understand the philosophy, present policy, and policy shifts related to juvenile justice.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and explain the elements of juvenile justice law.
- Read and analyze legal materials related to legal issues and trends about juvenile offenders and procedures.
- Understand the significance of the law and articulate this understanding in writing.
- Demonstrate an understanding of biblical and historical foundations of juvenile law.
- Identify legal issues in factual scenarios and accurately state and apply rules of juvenile law and policies.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum.
