Course Description
A study of intentional torts against persons and property and the privileges thereto. It focuses on the basic principles of negligence and other standards of care. A survey of the remaining issues in negligence including particular duties of landowners, damages, joint, and several liability, and defenses. It also deals with product liability, wrongful death, vicarious liability, and nuisance.

Rationale
This course will introduce the student to tort law. The study of torts is essential for the legal profession as many legal questions encountered in practice will involve tort law in some fashion. The student who studies and masters these concepts will be prepared for the practice of law and will better understand other legal topics as he/she is presented in his/her studies.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Read and analyze legal materials to assimilate their teachings and articulate an understanding of these legal materials.
- Demonstrate an understanding of biblical and historical foundations of tort law, the premises on which rules of law are based, and the relationship between judicial opinions and statutory law.
- Identify legal issues in factual scenarios and accurately state and apply principles and rules of tort law.
- Recognize risk factors for injuries and tort claims in a business context.

The student will complete 3 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 400 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must then post 2 replies of at least 200 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday following a week of the assigned Module: Week. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 2 scholarly citations in Bluebook format. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in Bluebook format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the textbook, law review articles, peer-reviewed journal articles, and the Bible.

The student is required to write a substantive essay of at least 500 words that demonstrates course-related knowledge. The essay must be double-spaced and in the current Bluebook format and cite at least 2 sources.

Biblical Torts Research Paper Assignment
The student will research and locate appropriate passages from the Bible that illustrate biblical examples of the application of tort law. The research paper must be 6–8 pages, double-spaced and in 12-point font, exclusive of end notes. The paper must be in the current Bluebook format and cite at least 5 sources, including Scripture.

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for assigned modules. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain a combination of 25 multiple-choice, true/false questions, and short essay questions, and have a 1-hour time limit.
Quiz: Comprehensive Final
The final quiz will cover the Learn materials for all 8 modules. The final quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice and 3 essay questions, and have a time limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
