This course examines the risk management process, focusing on a legal lens. Topics covered include operation, personnel, financial, legal, and data/information risk analysis and management. The course will focus on corporate, business, and enterprise risk management, including best practices for mitigating risks across a variety of contexts and industries.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to help students understand the role of risk management in corporate decision-making.  It equips students with the foundational skills necessary to identify risk and implement controls in an overall enterprise risk management program consistent with biblical principles and best practices.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Articulate common sources of risk in various corporate, business, and enterprise contexts.
  2. Understand and articulate the risk management framework.
  3. Articulate and explain best practices in mitigating various risks across an array of contexts and industries.
  4. Analyze risk management matters in a variety of factual situations.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. The thread must be 300–400 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and be supported by at least 2 scholarly citations in Bluebook format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200–400 words and contain at least 1 reference from the textbook/course material, cited in the current Bluebook format.

Essay Assignments (2)

The student will write two 3–5-page research essays in the current Bluebook format that focuses on specific provided topics. Each essay must include at least 3 scholarly sources in addition to the course textbook and the Bible. Citations must be in the current Bluebook format.

Abstract, Bibliography, and Outline Assignment

The student will submit an abstract of at least 150-250 words that identify the risk event, the success or failure of the risk management response, an overview of the student’s analysis or thesis statement, and a conclusion.  The student will also submit 10 preliminary scholarly sources from within the last 10 years and a detailed outline of major points for the Case Study.

Case Study: Draft Assignment

The student will submit a draft of at least 6 pages of the Case Study. The draft must include an introduction, thesis statement, outline, main body, conclusion, and a bibliography. Citations must be incorporated and follow the current Bluebook format.

Case Study: Final Assignment

The student will submit a final draft of at least 10 pages that incorporates feedback from the instructor and a minimum of 15 citations in the current Bluebook format. The page count does not include the cover page or bibliography.
