Rationale
In support of the role of the Doctor of Nursing Practice scholar and nurse engaged in advanced nursing practice, this course provides the student knowledge and skills to engage in scholarly inquiry and conduct a Scholarly Project designed to impact nursing practice, and improve outcomes in health care systems and population /client health.
The course helps to meet the standards of graduate-level nursing education as articulated by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (2006). Measurable Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate nursing phenomena through the identification of issues that need change or improvement (LU PLO 1–7; AACN I–VIII; NONPF 2014: Scientific Foundation Competencies, 1–3).
- Employ and evaluate nursing and other theories/conceptual models as a framework for the scholarly project (LU PLO 1; AACN I; NONPF 2014: Scientific Foundation Competencies 1–3).
- Implement, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate evidence-based solutions applied to a clinical/professional nursing practice problem (LU PLO 1, 3; AACN I, III; NONPF 2014: Scientific Foundation Competencies 1–3).
- Integrate and evaluate the Doctor of Nursing Practice Essentials to scholarly inquiry and practice (LU-PLO I; AACN I–VIII; NONPF 2014 Scientific Foundation Competencies 1–3, Leadership Competencies 5, Quality Competencies 1, Practice Inquiry Competencies 6, Information Technologies Competencies 3, Policy Competencies 1 and 3, Health Delivery System Competencies 1–6, Ethics Competencies 2–3).
- Demonstrate the role of a Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholar through the implementation and evaluation of a Scholarly Project (LU PLO 1–6; AACN I–VIII, NONPF 2014 Scientific Foundation Competencies 1–3, Leadership Competencies 5, Quality Competencies 1, Practice Inquiry Competencies 6, Information Technologies Competencies 3, Policy Competencies 1 and 3, Health Delivery System Competencies 1–6, Ethics Competencies 2–3).

Scholarly Project: Timeline Assignment
You will develop a Scholarly Project: Timeline Assignment to depict and track Scholarly Project milestones in this course. The Scholarly Project: Timeline Assignment depicts milestones, key deliverables, a description of work, and an estimated completion date for each milestone.
Scholarly Project: Sections 1 – 3 (Revised) Assignment
Students will submit a draft of Scholarly Project Sections 1-3 Assignment that has been revised to past tense according to the rubric.
Scholarly Project: Sections 1 – 5 and Appendices Final (Draft) Assignment
Students will submit the Scholarly Project Sections 1-5 and Appendices Assignment in final, edited form according to the rubric and the Scholarly Project requirements outlined in the DNP Student Handbook.
Scholarly Project: Data Summary and Analysis Spreadsheet Assignment
Students will submit a PDF copy of the Scholarly Project Data Set & Analysis Summary Spreadsheet according to the rubric.
Scholarly Project: Defense PowerPoint Assignment
This assignment will be developed in the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Template provided. This template already contains headings on slides to indicate topics that should be included. You can also add slides, and change the format, layout, or orientation. Consider adding timeline diagrams, visuals, etc. The presentation must be professional and suitable to use for a Scholarly Project Defense. If some of the documents in the appendices of the paper are available, these can be added as well and inserted in a slide, such as the CITI training completion certificate.
Scholarly Project: Sections 1 – 5 and Appendices Final (Edited) Assignment
Students will submit the Scholarly Project Sections 1 – 5 in the Final (edited) Assignment, form according to the rubric and the Scholarly Project requirements outlined in the DNP Student Handbook.
