Course Description

This is a worship course that articulates the biblical call for worship-based evangelism. This course makes application of a model of formational, transformational, relational, missional, and reproducible worship.

Rationale

At times, there seems to be confusion as to how worship leaders are to provide engaging leadership in a post-modern culture and society. Perhaps this confusion exists because worship leaders are sometimes slow to establish biblical models for worship. Worship leaders need to exercise commitment to a biblical model for worship that may be applied to every culture, location, people group, and daily living. This course makes the case that a biblical Model for worship will be formational, transformational, relational, missional, and reproducible.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Articulate the need for a worship model in the 21st-century ministry.
2. Define a biblical worship model for worship.
3. Articulate the scope and application of formational, transformational, relational, missional, and reproducible worship for daily ministry.
4. Apply principles for an organization to the worship model.
5. Develop a Bible study manual for worship leaders.

Discussions (4)

There will be 4 Discussions in this course. The student will discuss each Discussion prompt in 2 parts. First, the student will post a 250-word thread 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned module that directly addresses the topic. Secondly, the student will reply to 3 classmates’ threads by submitting a 100-word reply to each of them. These replies are due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the same module.

Book Review

The student will review The Heart of Worship by Matt Redman. The student will also interact with the core thesis of the book, highlighting the strengths and the weakness of the author’s presentation. Finally, the student should conclude with the practical applications of this text. The Book Review should be 3–5 pages and is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module 6: Week 6.

Final Project

The student will develop a study manual for worship leaders that applies the worship model for 21st-century ministry. The project will be 10–15 pages and will be written in a chapter-by-chapter format. It should have a title page, and a table of contents, and be documented with footnotes and a complete bibliography. The Final Project is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module 7: Week 7.

Quizzes (4)

Quizzes will be open-book/open notes and will cover the weekly readings. The student will be given an hour to complete each quiz. Quizzes will be comprised of true/false, multiple-choice, or essay questions. Each quiz is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the assigned module.

Quiz: Final

The student will complete an open-book/open-notes exam covering all of the course material. The exam must be completed in 2 hours and will consist of 50 true/false and multiple-choice questions. The Exam will be due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday of Module 8: Week 8.
