Course Description

This course will review basic electrical theory, including DC and AC, and then expand on this knowledge by introducing advanced electricasolid-stateincluding digital electronics, solid-state electrical control devices, and radio theory with an emphasis on their application in modern aircraft.

For information regarding the prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.

Rationale

This cartoon basic electrical knowledge to develop an understanding and application of advanced aircraft electronics. By applying the scientific knowledge of advanced electrical theory, the student can more accurately solve the problems that arise in avionics and aircraft electronics. The knowledge, information, and practical application gained will prepare the student to pursue industry certifications and better prepare for the ever-changing field of aviation electronics.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. Analyze advanced electronics theories used within the aviation industry.
    2. Apply understanding of electronics theories to modern aircraft.
    3. Evaluate electrical circuits in aircraft.
    4. Create electrical circuits utilizing the components addressed in the class.

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student must reply to at least 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words. Each thread and reply must also include at least 1 reference.

In addition, Discussions: Tinkercad will require the student to use the Tinkercad online tool to build a circuit. The circuit must be complete and include the following components: a voltage source, 2 resistors, 1 inductor, 1 capacitor, and a load (led light, light bulb, etc.). The student must be able to evaluate all the segments of the circuit. Once the course is assembled, the student must write an evaluation of the course in a thread and share the circuit link. (MLO: A, B, C, D)

Reflection Paper Assignment

The student will write an 800–900 word Reflection Paper in the current APA format that focuses on the student’s personal experience with avionics or electronics. The paper must include biblical integration with the theories of electricity or magnetism. The student must reflect on how a biblical worldview affects one’s discovery and understanding of the science of electricity. At least 3 scholarly sources must be cited in addition to the Bible. (MLO: A, B)

Evaluation Paper Assignment

The student will write a 1,500–2,000 word research-based paper in the current APA format that focuses on the viability of a specific advancement in aircraft avionics or electronics. The paper must include a title page, abstract, and reference page with at least 5 references in addition to the course textbook. (MLO: A, B, C)

Quizzes (4)

Each quiz will cover the Reading & Study material for the assigned modules: weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain various questions, and have a set time limit. (MLO: A, B, C)
