Course Description

This course will examine the roles of leadership in the community, leadership in administration, and leadership in schools from a Christian worldview. This course will provide educators with both theoretical and practical considerations for planning and implementing technology, particularly computer applications, in schools. Basic concepts of technology and planning that use systems theory are presented. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the total application of technology as opposed to any individual component, be it hardware, software, facilities, personnel, or finances. This course will form a foundation from which educators will provide leadership and become agents for realizing the powerful potential of technology in their schools.

The technology leader will experience variance from community to boardrooms to principal meetings. This course will focus on the theoretical and practical implications for leaders who work in the world of technology.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Develop an administrative technology vision, mission, and values statement by the technology plan to ensure understanding and commitment among the district/business and community.
  2. Develop goals and strategies consistent with the administrative technology vision, mission, and values statement by analyzing current status and trends relative to future needs to align the technology plan with appropriate objectives and 21st Century Learning Skills: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.
  3. Enhance professional knowledge using industry resources (e.g., publications, social media, local, regional, and national associations, and legislation) to enhance personal effectiveness as a technology director/leader.
  4. Exercise leadership by being a role model, empowering personnel, building effective teams, promoting the exchange of information, and making sound decisions to achieve administrative technology goals and promote technology objectives.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate will post one thread of at least 200 words. The candidate must then post 2 replies of at least 100 words. For each thread, the candidate must support his/her assertions with at least 2 scholarly citations in the current APA format. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in the current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last 5 years. Acceptable sources include textbooks, the Bible, researched-based articles, etc. (MLO: A, D)

Professional Organization Review Assignment

The candidate will write a 300-word count comparison of two specified organizations. (MLO: C)

Learning from the Past Assignment

The candidate will research to find an article discussing the change in the technology application/capabilities of a school. The candidate must use the current APA format in citations. The assignment must be a minimum of 2 double-spaced pages. (MLO: C)

Podcast Assignment

The candidate will review the possibility of utilizing podcasts at a local public school. The candidate must use the current APA format in citations. The assignment must be a minimum of 2 double-spaced pages. (MLO: B)

Communication Plan Assignment

The candidate will create a communication plan to announce the adoption of podcasts in a local public school or place of employment. The candidate will identify and expand on the best practices in podcasts and make all the necessary decisions. The candidate must use the current APA format in citations. (MLO: A, B)

Podcast Review Assignment

The candidate will evaluate 3 podcasts based on the discovered best practices. The candidate must use the current APA format in citations. (MLO: C)

Social Media for Growth Assignment

The candidate will create a presentation on the current trends found on social media within the candidate’s field of interest. Additionally, the candidate will see how podcasts are currently being used effectively and adjust his/her understanding of their best-use practices. The candidate must use the current APA format in citations. (MLO: C)

Transform Learning Environment Assignment

The candidate will host his/her podcast session. The candidate will demonstrate the best practices he/she described and showcase a component that is needed in the educational classroom. The podcast must be 3-5 minutes long and of professional quality. (MLO: A, B, D)

Future of Education Assignment

The candidate will focus on the four common characteristics of a leader (the four C’s of Leadership). The candidate will reflect on how they apply to him/her and how they will impact both the candidate as well as those working for him/her. The candidate must use the current APA format in citations. (MLO: A, B)

Future Presentation Assignment

In a 3-5 minute video, the candidate will describe to the main stakeholder why he/she should agree to the candidate’s technology plan. (MLO: D)
