The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) requires that all social work programs have a gatekeeping process to ensure that students have a thorough understanding of the profession of social work and will be a good fit for the program and profession. The BSSW program at Liberty University includes 4 gates. All students must apply for and be approved through all 4 gates to be eligible to graduate from the Social Work Program. This SOWK 365 course includes the application process for GATE 2 and the Field Enrollment Process of the Social Work Program. This course is 0 credits and is Pass/Fail. Approval through GATE 2 and completion of the Field Enrollment process indicates approval to begin Junior Field Placement (SOWK 370).

Successfully passing this course and gaining BSSW program approval through Gate 2 and the Field Proposal Process indicates a student’s approval to be registered for Junior Field.
Course Requirements Checklist

The student will complete this assignment to ensure that the eligibility requirements for the course are met.
Students complete the Disclosure Statement Form Template to acknowledge and verify charges, convictions, citations, etc., and to grant permission to the field education staff of the BSSW program to release information from the Disclosure Statement Form Template to arrange field placements.
The student will assess personal readiness and current life activities and responsibilities in preparation for field placement.
The student will utilize provided information to complete a resume revision in preparation for an internship or employment.
If an Area of Needed Growth was specified in the student’s Gate Decision email, the student will need to submit the associated documentation to show that the student has been growing in that specific area. Directions are provided in the assigned Module for what to do if no Areas of Needed Growth were noted in the Gate Decision email.
The students must pass with 100% to be able to continue with this course.
The student will complete placement proposal forms and demonstrate that the placement will meet agency, task, supervision, and schedule requirements according to CSWE and LU guidelines.
The student will begin to plan for next semester in preparation for the commitment of field placement.
The student will not submit anything for this assignment. The student’s assigned field advisor will indicate whether the proposal has been approved, after the entire proposal (Forms #1-6) has been submitted correctly and completely.
